Wine tasting a perk as a hospitalero!

Guibert sent Tom an email about his two weeks working as a hospitalero in Nájera.
"We were 4 hospitaleros, one American woman from Seattle area (Deborah) and 2 Spanish (José  from La Rioja and Marian from Malaga)
We welcomed nearly 1000 pilgrims, some days hosting as many as 90.
It was another very successful experience and we got well together as a team."
And here there are, enjoying a wine tasting.

And more pilgrims transform to hospitaleros

Daphne and Mary enjoyed a full weekend, training 7 pilgrims to return to Spain to serve as hospitaleros. A very enthusiastic group and I'm sure all will receive postings within the next year.
Thank you for your service!
Remember to please let Tom or Mary know if you are assigned to an albergue and we'll update our list on this blog.

More Canadians prepared to serve in Spain

Tom and Darlene trained 19 pilgrims on March 24-26 to return to Spain. Meanwhile, Judy and Tom trained over 20 on March 17-19. Below is the Calgary group.
Judy and Marlene will be serving in Rabanal from September 1-15th and Tom will again be in Zamora in November 16-30, including a singing session for Spanish Hostpitaleros.
Please let us know when you get a posting and I can post your first name on this blog to let others know where you will be.

Camino season is getting busy and hospitaleros are needed

We are hearing from many people that they have applied for volunteer postings this season and already 5 have been confirmed. There is more interest in volunteering at the Pilgrim Office in Santiago as we already have Mike, Greg and Barbara going in September and October. To see other postings, just click here. And if you're interested in learning how you can become a hospitalero, we are running 3 sessions in Canada this spring: Calgary (full), Victoria and Toronto.

Giving back to the camino

Each year, we offer training to those who would like to return some of the generosity, kindness and care that they experienced on their camino. To return to Spain or France as a hospitalero/a really can complete your camino experience.
This year there is training in Toronto on the weekend of March 17-19, in Calgary on the weekend of March 24-26 and in Victoria on the weekend of April 7-9. The Calgary weekend has already reached the maximum of 20, but there is still space for both the Toronto and Victoria sessions.
Our training starts off with introductions and a Spanish dinner on Friday night and then the work happens on the Saturday and Sunday, ending at 4pm on Sunday. All meals are included in the $125 registration (except Saturday dinner) and billeting for out of town people is provided whenever possible.
This is an opportunity not only to relive your camino but meet others who want to have a different kind of camino, one providing service to other pilgrims. To register, click on the side bar for Victoria or Toronto training.
